How does BioMap Alaska work?

BioMap Alaska is a web-based information reporting tool that allows users to see mapped observations and access a database of marine observations. Anyone can go to the “Alaska Sighting Map” to access a map view and download information. To report observations, you first need to obtain access by creating a user name and password. Once you have login access, you simply click on “Report a Sighting” to enter your observations. BioMap Alaska also offers various resources (RESOURCES menu option), samples and suggestions helpful to making observations and taking photographs (SAMPLES AND SUGGESTIONS menu option), and also offers special reports and current news articles (PRESS ROOM menu option). The BioMap Alaska field guide is also available as a menu selection and you can download the guide for your use in the field. The field guide and various content of the website are offered both in English and Iñupiaq.
